Somewhere Between Here and There
The first time I arrived in Berlin, I had no preconceptions of what it was going to be like but as I emerged from the underground and on to the streets, I immediately perceived some familiarity in its air. It was dark and cold but its grand avenues and buildings seemed very similar to the ones I grew up surrounded by most of my life in Mexico City. As I carried on walking and gazing at everything around me, I immediately felt as if I were somewhere in between homelands, a place between here and there. When you leave the place you have grown up in, you find yourself constantly searching – maybe even without being aware of it - for similarities, things that might make you feel as if you fit and belong to the place you now call home.
